Resistance is a signal, not an enemy
Turn resistance into information and participation.
Resistance is often seen as an obstacle to crush. In fact it is a SIGNAL: it tells you where the real worry is. Good leadership LISTENS and lets people PARTICIPATE: ask what they worry about, let them try the tool, let them shape how it's used. People who take part in change resist far less than people who have change imposed on them.
Two ways to respond to resistance
Imposing
“'From now on, using AI is mandatory; anyone who doesn't is behind.'”
Creates defensiveness and token compliance; people use it for show then revert.
Participatory
“'Let's try this tool for task X, everyone uses it for 2 weeks then we adjust together based on feedback.'”
Gives participation and a voice; adoption comes from positive experience, not orders.
Key takeaway: Resistance is a signal of worry; listen and involve people rather than imposing.
