0/4 steps done
Learning objectives — after this module you will:

- Know the three goals of a reward system and the trade-offs between them
- Choose a pay position (lead – match – lag) that fits your strategy
Pay is more than the number on the payslip
See reward as a complete package of value.
When an employee says 'the pay is low', they're often not only talking about the number. TOTAL REWARDS is everything of value a person receives for working here — and money is only one part. Understanding the full picture lets you solve retention with more tools than pay rises (which are expensive and easily outbid).
Why this matters in practice
A company paying at market with a clear development path and good managers usually retains better than one paying 10% more with nothing else. Before proposing a bigger payroll, check the other three layers — they're far cheaper and often just as powerful.
Key takeaway: Total Rewards has four layers: base pay, variable pay, benefits, and growth & recognition.
