The six-week framework
Have a real schedule instead of revising by mood.
The aPHRi is a foundational-knowledge exam, so the volume is considerably lighter than PHRi. At around five hours a week, six weeks is enough for most serious candidates.
The most effective tool for this exam
For a vocabulary-heavy exam, spaced-repetition flashcards are the most effective tool available. Write your own rather than downloading a set: rephrasing in your own words IS the learning; reading someone else's cards is not.
Three rules for learning terminology
- Learn in CONTRASTING PAIRS, never single terms — training/development, KPI/OKR, coaching/mentoring.
- For each term, invent an example from your own workplace; a self-generated example sticks far longer than a definition.
- Space the repetition: revisit a card after 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks — rather than rereading it repeatedly in one sitting.
Key takeaway: Six weeks at about five hours each; learn in contrasting pairs and write your own cards.
