Solutions anchored in the cause
Each cause a solution — not one dose for all.
Cause (BEM) → solution type
| Cause | Suitable solution |
|---|---|
| Lack of skill/knowledge | Training, coaching, job aids, e-learning |
| Lack of information/expectations | Clarify standards, checklists, periodic feedback, guides |
| Lack of tools/resources | Process improvement, provide tools, automation, reallocate work |
| Wrong incentives/consequences | Adjust KPIs, tie recognition, change the reward mechanism |
| Wrong placement/motive | Re-hire/re-place, motivational coaching, redesign the role |
Training rarely goes alone
The real solution is usually a PACKAGE: 'train skill X + add a job aid + adjust the KPI'. Training alone is only effective when the cause is PURELY a skill gap — which is rare. A good consultant always prescribes a mixed remedy.
Key takeaway: Each cause a solution; training usually goes with job aids, process, and incentives.
