The four eligible job categories
Place a role in the correct category.
A foreign national working in Vietnam can only be granted a work permit if the role falls into one of four job categories. This is where the whole file starts: if the position fits none of them, there is no route forward.
What each category must evidence
| Category | Evidenced by |
|---|---|
| Manager, executive director | Company charter, appointment decision, documents proving the managerial position |
| Expert | A university degree or above in the relevant field plus at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a practising certificate with the experience required by regulation |
| Technical worker | At least 1 year of specialist training plus at least 3 years of relevant experience, or at least 5 years of experience relevant to the role |
Experience evidence is the most common rejection
The confirmation of experience must be issued by the foreign employer, stating the position, the period and the nature of the work — and it must be consular-legalised. A general reference letter will not do.
