SAM and Agile Instructional Design
For when ADDIE moves slower than the business does.
What you'll get: ADDIE is not wrong — but run linearly it rests on three assumptions: that the need can be specified at the start, that it will not change during the project, and that people can describe what they want before seeing it. The third breaks most often. This ~120-minute Level 2 course introduces the Successive Approximation Model: three phases with the last two running as loops, the Savvy Start technique that settles scope in a single session, the design–test–revise loop, how to work with busy subject-matter experts inside an iterative rhythm, and three mechanisms for keeping scope from expanding without limit.
Who is this course for?
- Learning designers used to ADDIE who find it slow
- L&D teams on projects where the requirement is unclear at the start
- Anyone working with very busy subject-matter experts
- Training leads who want to shorten time to a working product
After this course, you will
- Recognise when linear ADDIE no longer fits a project
- Run a Savvy Start that ends with concrete sketches
- Operate a design–test–revise loop with real learners
- Work effectively with a subject-matter expert in twenty minutes
