Three questions before opening the role

Do not simply re-hire the person who just left.

The natural reflex when someone leaves is to take the old job description, repost it, and look for someone like them. That skips one fact: your team today is not the team of eighteen months ago, and what the role needs over the next twelve months may have changed.

The third question sometimes answers 'no' — and that is a good outcome.

Do not copy the leaver's job description

The person who left shaped that role around their own strengths over years. Their final job description describes a specific person, not a role. Rewrite from the first question.
