What is Talent Development?
Understand the core concept and scope of Talent Development.
Talent Development (TD) is the set of deliberate efforts to develop people's capabilities to meet the CURRENT and FUTURE needs of the organization. In short: helping the right people have the right capabilities at the right time.
According to ATD (the Association for Talent Development — the field's largest professional body), Talent Development is a large umbrella covering many functions: Learning & Development, Talent Management and Organizational Development. It connects people's learning with talent strategy and business results.
One sentence to remember
L&D takes care of people LEARNING and getting BETTER. Talent Management takes care of THE RIGHT PERSON in THE RIGHT ROLE throughout the employee lifecycle. Talent Development is the umbrella connecting both to business strategy.
Key takeaway: Talent Development = the large umbrella that develops people's capabilities per the organization's current and future needs.
