Why the yoga class does not solve it

Look where the problem actually is.

The familiar organisational response to burnout is a wellbeing programme: lunchtime yoga, a meditation app, a session on work-life balance. None of that is bad — but it carries an implicit message: 'the problem is how you handle pressure, not how much pressure we create.'

Burnout research says the opposite: the causes lie mainly in HOW THE WORK IS ORGANISED. A healthy person with excellent stress-management skills will still burn out if placed in a role with an impossible workload, no decision-making authority, and no recognition.

A one-question test

If you replaced this person with someone healthier and more resilient, would that person burn out within six months? If the answer is yes, the problem is the JOB rather than the PERSON — and no wellbeing programme fixes that.

Key takeaway: Wellbeing programmes are not wrong, but they treat symptoms; the cause is how the work is organised.
