Six clauses to read closely before signing
Do not discover the bad clause after you have started.
What to check, and why
| Clause | What to check |
|---|---|
| Probation | Length, probation pay rate, and the criteria for passing |
| Pay structure | What is fixed, what is performance-based, and how performance is measured |
| Insurance base | Whether contributions are on full pay or on base pay only |
| Training bond | If the company funds training, the service commitment and the repayment amount |
| Restrictive covenants | Non-compete and non-solicitation — their scope and duration |
| Start date and conditions | Whether it depends on background checks or any documentation |
Everything agreed verbally must be in writing
The promised six-month review, the development budget, the flexible days — if it is not in the offer letter or the contract, treat it as not agreed. Ask for it to be added; this is entirely routine.
