Six clauses to read closely before signing

Do not discover the bad clause after you have started.

What to check, and why

ClauseWhat to check
ProbationLength, probation pay rate, and the criteria for passing
Pay structureWhat is fixed, what is performance-based, and how performance is measured
Insurance baseWhether contributions are on full pay or on base pay only
Training bondIf the company funds training, the service commitment and the repayment amount
Restrictive covenantsNon-compete and non-solicitation — their scope and duration
Start date and conditionsWhether it depends on background checks or any documentation

Everything agreed verbally must be in writing

The promised six-month review, the development budget, the flexible days — if it is not in the offer letter or the contract, treat it as not agreed. Ask for it to be added; this is entirely routine.
