What does L&D do?
Understand the core role of Learning & Development.
Learning & Development (L&D) is responsible for building people's capabilities through learning solutions — not just 'running training courses'. L&D starts from a business need or performance gap, not from 'a course we want to run'.
L&D's main activities
- Training Needs Analysis (TNA) — analyzing the real training need
- Designing learning programs: objectives, content, activities, materials
- Delivering learning: in-person classes, e-learning, coaching, on-the-job
- Measuring training effectiveness (not just attendance and satisfaction)
- Building a learning culture and capability-development pathways
Key takeaway: L&D builds capability through learning solutions, always starting from a business need — not from 'a course we want to run'.
